“Serving you since 1948.” Two Tanjong Katong units plus a High Street Centre store.

About the shop

Lucky Store has sold electronics on Tanjong Katong Road since 1948, and it still calls itself family-owned. Two side-by-side units, at 310 and 312 and opposite the Canadian International School, hold everything from fridges and washing machines to cameras, drones, rice cookers and Kobo e-readers. It is an authorised dealer for brands including Canon, Sony, Samsung and Philips, and its Carousell profile says everything it lists carries a local manufacturer’s warranty, with no export or parallel-import sets.

That’s the shop. What I wanted to know is whether the prices are worth the trip. After setting a handful of its listings against the big chains, my answer is yes, with one instruction about how to shop it.

Do the prices hold up?

Mostly, and sometimes by a wide margin. I took four items Lucky Store lists and looked for the same model elsewhere.

Lucky Store against the chains, same model

Item Lucky Store Elsewhere
Mayer 28-bottle wine chiller, MMWC28MAG-WD $399 $399 at Courts and Lightings.com.sg; $459 at Mayer's own store and Gain City
DJI Osmo Action 4 Standard Combo $309 $289 at Challenger and Courts; $389 at Gain City in a late-2025 promotion
Elba EWF80120VT 8kg front-load washer, 4 ticks $889 $889 usual price and $699 in a May 2026 promotion, both at Gain City
Samsung 98-inch DU9000 4K TV, UA98DU9000KXXS $2,488 (like new) New: $3,849 at Courts; $3,799 to $5,144 from Lazada sellers in April 2026

Lucky Store prices are as shown on its Carousell profile and, for the Elba, its website on 21 September 2026. Other prices come from the linked listings, some undated. Courts listed the wine chiller and the TV as out of stock. Prices move.

Read that as a pattern, not a sweep. On the wine chiller, Lucky matches the lowest price I found. On the action camera it sits $20 above the cheapest chain price. The washer’s website price equals a chain’s usual price, though that chain knocked $190 off in a promotion. And the 98-inch TV, being like-new rather than new, is a different purchase, but at more than $1,300 under Courts’ new price it’s real money. My verdict: competitive, occasionally excellent, rarely first in every comparison.

Lucky Store’s Facebook page invites you to call, e-mail or message to check prices, and on anything over a few hundred dollars I’d do exactly that, with a chain’s promo open in another tab. Uchify’s roundup, for what it’s worth, says shoppers come back to the shop for its competitive prices and wide selection.

What people say about it

The shop’s numbers are easiest to read on Carousell: a 4.9 rating from 399 reviews, one of them calling it a “Recommended and trusted seller and store”. Uchify reports the same 4.9 on Google across more than 1,000 reviews, and the shop’s Facebook page has 3,259 likes.

Then there are the mentions from people who weren’t writing about appliances at all. In May 2026, GetGo’s school-holiday guide to spending CDC vouchers put Lucky Store between a neighbourhood aquarium shop and a plant nursery, with an unexpected pitch: Kobo e-readers that borrow library books from NLB through OverDrive. A month later Uchify’s updated roundup of homeware shops taking CDC and SG60 vouchers included it too. Neither piece was about electronics. Both made room for it.

The about page adds a credential: the shop says it is a government-business registered supplier, able to tender to statutory boards, military camps and government-aided schools.

What's on the shelves

The shop names Canon, Sony, Samsung and Philips as brands it is an authorised dealer for, and the brand strip on its site adds Panasonic, Sharp, Tefal, Zojirushi, Garmin and GoPro. The categories run wider than the brands suggest: fridges, front- and top-load washers, DC fans, rice cookers, air fryers, TVs, cameras, drones, routers, storage drives, and, near the back of the menu, safes and corporate door gifts. Reservations run over WhatsApp on 8614 1212, which Uchify flagged as useful when you want one specific model. Hours in both the GetGo and Uchify guides are Monday to Friday 10.30am to 7pm and Saturday 11am to 7pm. It closes on Sundays, which makes Saturday the only weekend window, so plan for it.

Vouchers make the price better still

Lucky Store takes Climate, CDC and SG60 vouchers at the same counter. Its Facebook posts carry all three, and the government’s Climate Voucher retailer list names the shop: Lucky Store (Tg Katong), 310/312 Tanjong Katong Road. Its Climate Voucher category holds 169 products.

Do the sums on that Elba washer. At $889, a household with the full $400 of Climate Vouchers pays $489 in cash. The $400 is $300 from April 2024 plus $100 from April 2025 for HDB households, or $400 for Singapore Citizen households in private homes. Claims run to 31 December 2027, and 5-tick dryers and induction stoves joined the eligible list in April 2026.

The rules are worth knowing before you go. Vouchers come in $2, $5, $10 and $50 pieces, the shop says there’s no change if you spend more voucher than the price, purchases made with Climate Vouchers can’t be refunded, and they’re not valid online. Bring your voucher link and proof of the address you claimed with. SG60 vouchers and the January CDC tranche expire on 31 December 2026, so those are the ones to spend first.

Lucky Store is far from alone in taking them. The scheme had 14 participating retailers in July 2024, when two MPs asked for heartland electrical shops to be let in, and guides now cite over 150 retailers across 500-plus outlets. That’s one reason more people are shopping at neighbourhood counters, and it makes a good shop’s edge simple: a fair price, then the voucher on top.

Retailers must also take away your old appliance free of charge when they deliver a new one, according to Hisense’s Climate Voucher guide, so ask about that at the counter.

Where it falls short

It isn’t the cheapest on everything, as the comparison above shows, and a big chain’s promo week can beat it. Vouchers only work at the counter, and the shop is closed on Sundays, so if you live across the island that means a Saturday trip to Katong. The shop’s Instagram, @luckystoresg, is a small account, 567 followers in the last public snapshot, so most of its reputation lives in Google, Carousell and word of mouth rather than social media.

A 2019 complaint about a delayed Lazada order still sits on a business directory page. It’s old, and it’s about online fulfilment, but it’s a fair reminder that this is a shop you visit, not one you order from and forget.
